The last time I got my hair done my stylist warned me not to go beyond 12 weeks before my next relaxer. This would mean relaxing on Friday as that's 12 weeks. As some of you know, originally I wasn't planning to relax until the end of March, which will be 18 weeks and my one year hair anniversary (time flies when you're trying to grow long hair)!
18 weeks will definitely be the longest amount of time that I've gone between relaxers, but since my hair will still be in braids, I was thinking I could swing it. I definitely think I can get to 16 weeks before relaxing, but I don't want to do more harm than good especially since my mishap with combing my hair out the last time.
I'm torn...what do you think - relax at 12, 16, or 18 weeks?
I say listen to your hair. Mine is adamant about being relaxed between 10-12 weeks, tough to detangle lose more hair than normal, and it ALWAYS acts the same between 10-12 weeks. So I say if you aren't having any issues, stretch until your hair tells you to stop.
ReplyDeleteThanks ECP - I hear you about listening to my hair. I agree with you, so I'll see how I feel on Thursday night when I take my braids out.
DeleteI say, do what's best for your hair. There is no harm in relaxing at 12 weeks, by then you should have enough new-growth to avoid overlapping.
ReplyDeleteBut if your hair is in braids, there is no need to cut your stretch short. When you do get your touch-up though, make sure your hair is very manageable(maybe lightly blow-dry a week before or roller-set) for your stylist..so no unnecessary breakage occurs while parting or combing.
Thanks Ms. D. That's a good idea to do a little pre-work, but unfortunately the last time I tried that, I did more harm than good. My hair is at the point right now where it's only manageable in braids. If I take them out and try to manipulate, it's game over, lol!
